Before you begin any type of dieting approach you must first determine how many calories you need to take in each day to reach your goals. You can visit my article to find out what your calorie intake should be.
“How Many Calories Should I Eat to Lose Weight?”
A healthy diet to lose weight consists of one that has plenty of complex carbohydrates to support your activities. Complex carbs are high fiber foods that improve digestion and help stabilize blood sugar levels and come from grains like wheat and bran and are also found in many vegetables. Some examples to include in your diet are oatmeal, multi grain or wheat breads, bran cereals, lettuce, broccoli, cabbage, tomatoes, soy milk, soy beans, strawberries and oranges just to name a few.
Since carbohydrates are a primary fuel source your body uses for energy, it only makes sense that it is recommended to make up 50% of your daily intake. Many of the foods that are rich with complex carbohydrates are low in calories, so this means you can really load up on these foods without having to worry much about going over your recommended intake.
A healthy diet to lose weight also consists of a good supply of protein. Proteins help promote weight loss by helping you to feel full longer. Protein is also what your body uses to promote muscle growth and repair damaged muscles. A good steady source of protein allows your body to build new muscle and that new muscle will help burn off more calories every day. How much protein should your diet consist of is the question.
Most healthy diet recommendations suggest about 30-40% of your daily intake come from proteins. There are many protein sources to choose from ranging from seafood to meats like beef, pork, and poultry to nuts and beans, dairy products like milk and yogurt and the good ol’ incredible edible egg.
The next thing to consider when determining a healthy diet to lose weight is your fat intake. There is no need to go overboard with this one and try to shop for reduced or non fat in every product you buy. Most of the time these products are only slightly less fattening than their original counterparts and in some cases have more calories.
The main thing to consider is trying to limit your calories from fat to about 20% of your daily total. This may sound like a lot but when you figure that every gram of fat equates to 9 calories, it doesn’t take long for them to add up. Out of a 2000 calorie diet, 400 calories would be recommended for fat intake. Those 400 calories come out to just 45 grams of fat per day. Along with this you should strive to keep as much saturated fat out of your diet as possible.
All in all each of your meals should be well balanced. If you maintain the ratio recommended above throughout each of your meals you should have no problems obtaining a healthy lifestyle and shedding the weight you want.
Steer far away from extreme dieting. Completely eliminating a food group altogether or eating drastically reduced portions of food groups causes your body to adjust and try to operate without the necessary nutrients. That’s about the same as trying to build a house and not bothering with any plumbing materials, you can build it, but it just won’t work like it should.
